Call out Orga meeting Multidisciplinary Festival August 2016

Standard

deutsch unten

Radical Queer Wagenplatz Kanal and International Women* Space are two self-organized FLT*I* groups that organize a multi-disciplinary festival in August 2016 and need you and your ideas. These two BPoC dominant groups are focusing on political empowerment and
self-organization of FLT*I * and FLT*I*-non-Citizen, who are affected by racism, classism, state nationalism, sexism and homo-, trans*-, inter*-discriminations. We are trying to create a network that builds radical politics in all aspects against the concept of states, patriarchy, capital and normativity.

Our multidisciplinary festival is supposed to be a platform, in which marginalized and radical-political art should find an uncompromisable access to an ignorant society. In addition, the Festival is a place where FLT*I* BPoC get to know each other, connect and make it possible to organize political resistance together.

We want to build an organizing team in which mainly FLT*I* BPoC are addressed, who are affected by one or more above mentioned discriminations, together with the Radical Queer Wagenplatz Kanal and the International women* space. We want to organize a two day festival, with film, theater, performances, spoken-word, workshops and spaces for
networking about the topics above. The festival will open with a demonstration from Oranienplatz, which is a political place that has become a symbol of the resistance through the refugee movement in the last four years, to Radical Queer Wagenplatz Kanal, where the festival will take place.

In Kanal there are regulary group and sportsactivities. Whoever wants to make sports in a community as queer, BPOC, migrant, refugee, transgender, will experience violence. We dont feel like being confronted with the racist white hegemony, sexism and transphobia anymore, when we want to make sport together with other people. Thats why its for us necessary to make sports in a self organized space, where our politics, identities and needs are leading, and not only mentioned on the side. only in this way can sport be a positive, communitybuilding and empowering experience. When we do sports in Kanal it is about having fun together, getting mentally and bodily stronger, and feel belonging. The focus is not on competition or maximizing fitness, nor should any authoritative trainingsconstellations be reproduced. It should create a space, where we experience ourselves positively in the community, where we compensate for the fight in everyday life. We make sports as a resistant strategy of selfcare in the community.

The whole year around there is a selfdefence-workshop every month, followed by regular selfdefence-trainings. When the weather is nice, we meet weekly and play football together. To make this activities happen in a safe space means a lot, and has a positive effect on the whole community through the empowerment of every member.

Media Awareness & Empowerment Space

Standard

Let’s address the media’s racist representation of us

& produce our own media!

People affected by discriminative structures are not controlling the media. Media reports

about them are full of misunderstandings and stereotypes. They express an ethnocentric

views and nurture racism . For example, socalled

refugees” are depicted – in words and

especially in images – as criminals or victims or heroes or as being all the same.

Problematic “leader” images are created etc. These media reports harm us. They benefit

those who are reporting about us to develop their career as an academic, filmmaker,

journalist, NGO… Here is what we want to do about this:

KANAL’s Media Awareness & Empowerment Space offers…

● … writing, filming & photography tools for people who have no access to them.

The aim is that they produce media from their own perspective.

● … support to selforganized

groups of people affected by discriminative

structures & fighting against them. For example, we offer to film their actions.

● … workshops & counselling for left groups, “welcoming initiatives” and

mainstream media to raise awareness about racist representations of us.

Our space is located in the Radical Queer Wagenburg KANAL e.V.

KANAL is a queer selforganized

space of black people, people of color, migrants and

rrom_nja. It is political and living space connected to other political projects.

+++ We are calling for persons affected by racist media representation who have access to

media tools and knowledge to join our space! +++

Garten

Standard

International Women Space Feminist film session in Kanal for WLTI*

Standard

Once a month exhibition of a film on women* political struggle. After the film we have a round discussion rising the topics of racism, sexism and classism. The objective is to bring visibility to women* struggles and to create space for discussion and ways for unity within the BPoC feminist groups and individuals. Also a info table so flyers of coming events, brochures and other printed material can be spread.”

Music Project/Band Rehearsal Space

Standard

What is the Music Project?

The Music Project of Kanal is a space where we collectively share knowledge about music and playing instruments through continuous workshops. It is a place where we want to question the capitalist concept of talent and the assumption that you need a special type of knowledge to be able to play music. This is not true, everyone can play music and we want to create a free dialogue between different voices to create music that is empowering for the community. We build the space together! Building melodies that reflect our lives collectively, without the resources of the white music industry that feeds on stealing and appropriating the music of non white people.

The Band Rehearsal Space of Kanal is a paralel project to the Music Project where we want to motivate BPOC/FLTI* to create their own bands and music projects as tools to express their existance and goals.

Why at Kanal?

Kanal is a non commercial space, and as such the Music Project is a non commercial project. There are two main goals: first is to empower people. People who don’t have the privilege or the access to „music knowledge“ and instruments. Second is to strenghten the community by erasing the concept of individualistic expression to produce collective expression. Kanal as a space that gives us the possibility to empower ourselves with music!

Bike project at Kanal Radical Queer Wagonplace

Standard

Who we are:
We are a group of Womyn, Lesbian, Trans*, Inter people. We are Black and Persons of Colour. We are refugees,  asylum seekers, volunteers and working class. Our aim is to make people move around in an independent, ecological, cheap and faster way. We see bikes as an important tool for empowerment and with that comes the need of being able to fix and maintain our own means of transportation. The idea is to learn from each other, empower ourselves, share knowledges, take care of our communities and do bike related stuff! All of this a mostly Black and PoC space, avoiding any kind of white / cis male leadership and concepts. We want to change this reality of bike spaces being dominated by cis men and white people, what most of the time leads to racist, sexist and transphobic structures, therefore excluding Trans* people and B.PoCs. Here we are the protagonists of our own reality, of our own space, of our own structure, of our own life. Lets show that representation matters and share space with people in a way that they can also acknowledge their own power, by their owns means. Together we can do it!

What we do

We offer tools and assistance to people who wants fix their bikes themselves or build a new one out of recycled materials and old bike parts. The bike workshop at Kanal is open to receive donations of bike parts, tools and whatever material that makes the bike maintenance possible. We already have some material available, so don’t be shy and come over! We also offer workshops of basic bike mechanics and cycling courses for refugee women* in a all women* environment. There is also planned a big bike fixing action, on April/ June/ August and October, where we can fix a huge amount of bikes together in our workshop or directly at the Refugeeheims, and give them to Refugee Women*. Another part of our project is focused on the kids, the ones who fled and those also living in our neighborhood, specially Rroma kids. We want to create an open and friendly environment where they can come and do the basics in their own bikes and toys with wheels, in a fun and easy way allowing them to play with it at the same time!

Who can use the space

We want to create a Queer* space where W*LT*I and PoC and Black people are welcome, encouraged and active in the group. Even though the bike workshop is open to everybody, we encourage especially Black, PoC, Queer and Trans* persons to come, use the space and shape it together with us, becoming also part of the group structure if they want to.
Keep in mind that this a self-organized group and we work in an horizontal basis, where everybody is responsible for the project, with no hierarchy and specially with no participation of white cismale people at any part of
the structure. This is a safer space for us, Trans* Queer and BPocs.
Why we do it

Because we want to be active and independent! Some of us have a plenty of free time. Some of us do not want to be just ‘waiting’ until our process here gets settled or even started. We do not want to depend on the government tools that wants to have total control of our lives and steps. We want to put our skills in practice, we want to improve our knowledge, we want to have control over our own will and ways, we want to be creative together and make transportation a tool that helps us, not only in our daily mobility but as well in our interpersonal interactions, in our fight for freedom, in our lives.
Where you can find us

The bike workshop is located in the Radical Queer Wagonplace Kanal, in the Kiefholzstr. 74. As the bike activities are done open airs, we are open for the public from April to November, weekly, on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm. But you can also come from December to March, just contact us before hand so we can make sure that everybody can fit inside the Wagon, so we can work in a warm place!

Küfa

*English*

Volxküche, or simply Vokü, literally means people’s kitchen! Küfa means Küche für Alle, kitchen for all. It’s an eating space away from commercially lead enterprises were food is provided to the people who can not afford, or are looking for an experience away from overpriced cafe culture. At Kanal it offers a relaxed queer space were people can enjoy some heart warming & tasty vegan meals, prepared and cooked by a group of DIY queers. Because of Kanal’s outdoor nature it runs here during the summer months, and we try to have different themes every time with small workshops, movies and/or something else. For the food we welcome donations with any extra money made going back to help keep Kanal and to support the theme of the day. We also like things to be fun and exciting.

Kanal do it themselves so relies upon yours and others help! If you are interested in cooking Vokü or adding any further dates/themes then please feel invited to do so by mailing guacamole@riseup.net. We also rely upon your help, whether that’s by spreading the word or helping with the washing up. So please feel welcome to bring your friends, dogs, children and musical instruments and come support, eat and partake in creating a beautiful Vokü in one of Berlin’s most beautiful wagon platz.

There is no date set yet for 2015, but sign up for our mailinglist if you want to get informed! Write a mail with the subject “liste” to kanal[ät]squat[dot]net

*Deutsch*
